I have directed the new music video of Her Name is Calla, for their single Ragman Roll. Abigail Butler was at the Art Direction.

It was filmed over two days in East London (some of you may recognise the canal…).

Almost all of it was shot using the D800, with a few slow motion sequences in the inside scenes. We used some dedo lights for the inside set, and everything outside was shot using natural light.

Filmed with the D800 + 24/120, with a small grade in Speedgrade (which is amazing by the way).

I had the opportunity to try it yesterday for a session with Crooked Fingers.

I put the new 24-120 f/4 on it, and I don’t know if the overall weight was lighter or if it was better balanced, but I found the combo much easier to use than my usual D7000 + 24/70 f/2.8.

It’s too early to make a judgement on image quality, especially as I was using it with a new lens, but my first impressions are pretty good.

It’s definitely – and as expected – better than the D7000 at high ISO, which will be a massive help for me, as a standard ISO 1600 for venue backrooms was really pushing the D7000.
